General Information, HMP Exeter

Built over 150 years ago with 3  wings positioned around the centre Exeter has undergone many additions and alterations over the intervening years, the latest being a refurbished reception, new visits hall and a social care unit (F wing). The prison is a  male cat B local prison holding prisoners sent from the courts of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.. It is run by HMPS as part of the South West region and has a capacity of 412 and the #1 governor is Richard Luscombe, who has been in charge since December 2019.

  • A wing – holds 194 general population
  • A4 landing – vulnerable prisoners
  • B wing – closed for refurbishment
  • C wing – holds 189 general population
  • C4 landing- first nights and induction
  • D wing –  enhanced living unit, 80
  • F wing – closed for refurbishment
