Built over 150 years ago with 3 wings positioned around the centre Exeter has undergone many additions and alterations over the intervening years, the latest being a refurbished reception, new visits hall and a social care unit (F wing). The prison is a male cat B local prison holding prisoners sent from the courts of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.. It is run by HMPS as part of the South West region and has a capacity of 412 and the #1 governor is Richard Luscombe, who has been in charge since December 2019.
