Education: Education at the prison is delivered in conjunction with The Manchester College. The courses offered include basic numeracy and literacy as well as IT training, Graphic Design, Digital Imaging, Media/Radio Production, Painting & Decorating and Art plus the usual range of Personal & Social Development courses.
Vocational Training: Courses are offered in Industrial Cleaning (BICS), health and safety and basic first aid.
Library: Prisoners have access to the library and a “delivery” service is available for priosners who are unable to visit the library due to work/educational commitments.
Pre release courses: There is a 2 week pre release course run by the prison with assistance from organizations such as Shelter, Job Centre +, Careers Advice etc
Programmes: the usual array of courses are available such as SMART Recovery. There are victim awareness courses and a Restorative Justice Team at the prison.
Gym: The prison has 3 gyms which cater for prisoners of all ages and abilities.
Employment: Work available at the prisons include the usual orderly positions as well areas such as Laundry, Cleaners, Stores, Maintenance Department and Textiles workshop.
Healthcare: NHS England Lancashire is the commissioner, with Lancashire Care Foundation Trust (LCFT) the core provider, assisted by Phoenix Futures (psychosocial ) and Greater Manchester West NHS Trust (substance misuse services )
