Work and Education
Education is delivered by Manchester College with a staff team of 16 full-time and 26 part-time tutors. The education department is open Mon-Fri, closed Friday afternoon, and offers courses in literacy, numeracy, art, IT, and business studies. These courses are offered either as full time education or on an outreach basis where the tutor meets with the student at their place of work. Evening classes are also offered to prisoners. The education department also refurbishes computers for the charity IT Schools Africa.
Vocational training includes qualifications in Painting and Decorating, Industrial Cleaning, Warehousing and Fork Lift Truck, Carpentry and Joinery, Floor and Wall Tiling, Roofing, Bricklaying and Plastering.
Industries comprises a charity workshop carrying out transcription work for the Royal Institute for the Blind, six industrial workshops delivering contracts for external agencies, two textile and tailoring workshops for the production of items for the Prison Service, and a laundry serving the establishment. Qualifications are available in the workshops delivered by Manchester College. The Reclamation department undertakes the waste management and recycling operations for the establishment and the Gardens and Horticulture department maintains the grounds and offers the opportunity for an NVQ in Horticulture delivered by South Staffordshire College.
