The local cricket pavilion for South Wetherby cricket club had been broken into and vandalised 3 times in the last 2 years and the cost of refurbishment was beyond the resources of the small club which was facing closure. The restorative justice team at HMPYOI Wetherby, stepped in and serving trainees worked with the cricket club to repair and refurbish the club house which was opened on 3rd September.
Restorative justice is a key part in preparing serving prisoners to play a full part in the community upon their release form custody, and is some payback to the community which has suffered by reason of crime. The cricket pavilion is just an example of one the many projects which are undertaken each year by the trainees at Wetherby.
