The prisoners at the Grange Resettlement Unit at HMP Hewell have been working over the last 6 months to refurbish the derelict shower facilities at the prison. The new shower block will allow the prison to extend the number of prisoners held at the establishment and by carrying out the majority of the work by using skilled prisoners a saving of £xxx has been made.
This is just another example of how the prison service can save the taxpayer money and at the same time improve the structure of the prison. The prisoners who worked on the project will have benefited from the experience of being part of a real building project which will stand them in good stead when released , and the prison has a new shower block, a win-win situation
