The Secretary of State for Justice has reappointed Martin Jones CBE as His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Probation for a second three-year term, running from 1 March 2027 to 30 April 2030.
Mr Jones has held the role since March 2024, leading independent inspections of probation and youth justice services across England and Wales, with a particular focus on public protection and victim safety. He previously spent nine years as Chief Executive of the Parole Board, and was awarded a CBE in 2021 for services to victims and transparency in the parole system.
HM Inspectorate of Probation is the independent body responsible for inspecting and reporting on probation and youth offending services, separate from HM Inspectorate of Prisons, which covers prisons themselves.
