Eastwood Park, near Falfield in South Gloucestershire, is a closed prison for women and young female offenders, and one of the main reception prisons for women in England.
The most recent independent inspection, in June and July 2025, found a mixed picture. Inspectors acknowledged determined leadership from the governor and her team, which had brought some improvements, including reduced use of anti-ligature clothing and better support for women on arrival and those self-harming. Set against this, they found violence, self-harm and use of force had all risen and were among the highest recorded anywhere in the women’s estate, women with severe mental illness were facing excessive delays for transfer to secure hospital beds, and the regime was frequently curtailed, leaving many women without enough full-time activity to occupy their day.
Given these findings, families of women at Eastwood Park may want to check in regularly on wellbeing and any mental health needs, alongside using the practical visiting and contact details above.
