In Dundee, the Bella Centre is one of Scotland’s two Community Custody Units for women: small, low-security, house-based accommodation for women nearing the end of their sentence, run under the oversight of HMP & YOI Stirling. Opened in 2022, it was the UK’s first unit of its kind, with no bars or razor wire, just shared houses designed to build independent living skills before release.
