Scotland’s only open prison, HMP Castle Huntly is genuinely housed in a 15th-century castle near Dundee. It holds lower-supervision adult men, mostly those serving shorter sentences or long-term prisoners nearing release, and unlike a normal prison it has no perimeter fence; prisoners can move around the estate unescorted.
