HMP Kilmarnock holds adult men on remand and serving sentences of all lengths, and is the main receiving prison for Ayr and Kilmarnock courts. It opened in 1999 as the UK’s first prison built and run under a private contract; management passed back to the Scottish Prison Service in March 2024.
