Scottish prisons are rolling out in-cell telephony – fixed phone lines installed directly in cells, replacing the temporary mobile phones brought in during the Covid-19 pandemic.
You can only call numbers on your pre-approved list, and calls are monitored and recorded, as they are across the whole UK prison estate. Prisoners currently get an allowance of free call minutes each month to help with family contact; beyond that, calls are paid for from your Prisoner’s Personal Cash account, topped up by family or from any prison earnings.
Exact minute allowances and call costs can change from time to time, so if you need the current figures, your Personal Officer or the prison’s family contact team can confirm them.
