Scottish prisons have been completely smoke-free since 2018, though vapes are allowed – so if you smoke, that’s one thing to prepare yourself for.
On your first night, you’ll usually be given basic toiletries, and you’ll be able to buy a small amount from the prison shop (canteen) using your Prisoner’s Personal Cash account. Staff on first-night units deal with people who are frightened, upset, or in shock every day – so it’s always worth telling someone how you’re feeling, rather than bottling it up.
