Transport to the Prison (Scotland)

Once your case is dealt with, you’ll be taken from court to prison by GEOAmey PECS, the company contracted by the Scottish Government to provide prisoner escort services across Scotland.

You’ll travel in a secure vehicle, usually divided into individual compartments. Depending on where you’ve been sentenced and which prison you’re heading to, the journey can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours.

Which prison you go to at first depends on your security categorisation, the offence, and – particularly for women and young people – which specialist facilities are available. You may well be moved again later on, as your sentence goes on.
