General Information, HMP Fosse Way

HMP Fosse Way opened in May 2023 on the site of the former HMP/YOI Glen Parva, which had closed in 2017. It was built offsite and assembled using a Design for Manufacture and Assembly approach, with over 12,000 precast concrete panels, nearly 2,000 prefabricated windows and more than 200 prefabricated plant/riser units used in construction, which ran from August 2020 to May 2023. The build was delivered for the Ministry of Justice by Mace, at a reported cost of around £285 million, and the prison was officially opened on 30 June 2023 by the then Lord Chancellor Alex Chalk KC MP.

Accommodation

The prison has seven house blocks alongside a Centralised Activities and Services Unit which brings together workshops, education and other facilities under one roof. Design capacity is around 1,715 places. Local councils have also approved a further expansion, adding a further house block and around 250 more places, though this had not been built at the time of writing.
