  • 2017 – HMP/YOI Glen Parva, the previous prison on this site, closes.
  • Late 2021/early 2022 – The name “Fosse Way”, after the nearby Roman road, is chosen for the new prison following a public consultation.
  • 29 May 2023 – HMP Fosse Way receives its first prisoners.
  • 30 June 2023 – The prison is officially opened by the Lord Chancellor, Alex Chalk KC MP.
  • 13 February 2024 – Prisoner Ashley Ferrie dies at the prison; a Prisons and Probation Ombudsman investigation later raises concerns about unlock and roll-check procedures.
  • 2024/25 – The Independent Monitoring Board’s annual report records ten prisoner deaths over the year and raises concerns about delayed transfers of mentally unwell prisoners to secure hospital care.
  • Late 2024/early 2025 – A prisoner is killed by fellow inmates; three men are later convicted of murder and manslaughter over the attack.
  • 10–20 March 2025 – HMIP carries out its first full inspection of the prison.
  • 6 August 2025 – A prisoner is seriously assaulted by a fellow inmate and later dies from his injuries; the attacker is later convicted of manslaughter.
  • April 2026 – The Care Quality Commission inspects healthcare at the prison, now provided by Practice Plus Group.
