HMP Millsike opened in April 2025 near Full Sutton, North Yorkshire, and is run by Mitie Care & Custody under a 10-year operating contract – the first UK prison to be privately operated by Mitie. It is also the UK’s first all-electric prison, built without a gas connection. The current Director is Sarah Mallender, who took over in June 2026, and the prison has a design capacity of around 1,500 places across six house blocks, though it is still being built up towards that figure.
